:: Wandern & Trekking :: Santa Lucía bietet Ihnen 8 verschiedene Wanderwege in den Schwierigkeitsstufen leicht bis anspruchsvoll; von 45 min bis 8 Stunden Dauer und von 1.200 bis 2.400 m. Auf diesen Pfaden können sie verschiedene Landschaftsbilder genießen:Primärwald, Sekundärwald, Aufforstungsgebiete, Grasland, Flüsse und Wasserfälle sowie Zuckerrohr und Bananenplantagen. Der Weg entlang des Flusses stößt auf einen Pfad unserer Vorfahren, der "Yumbos", die auf mysteriöse Weise verschwanden. Der Höhepunkt eines Aufenthaltes ist der Anden Felshahn bei seinem Balzritual zu beobachten. Ein Pfad ist gut ausgeschildert auch mit verschiedenen Erklärungen zu den Pflanzen, damit man auch auf eigene Faust den Nebelwald kennenlernen kann. Beschreibung unserer Wanderwege: 1. Cock-of-the-Rock Weg (Dauer 1h 45min/ Insgesamt 4h) Dies ist einer unserer anstrengendsten Trekking Pfade, mit dem Ziel: Felshahn Balzplatz.Dieses Schauspiel kann man morgens um 6:00 Uhr (das ganze Jahr über) sowie nachmittags 14:00 Uhr (nicht in der Regenzeit) sehen. Zwei Stunden vor der Darbietung sollte man von der Lodge aufbrechen, Taschenlampen sind für die Wanderung in der Morgendämmerung unbedingt notwendig. 2. Wasserfall Pfad (Insgesamt 2-3h) Ein leichter Weg abwärts durch den Primärwald entlang einiger Wasserfälle gehört zu den schönsten Wanderwegen unserer Lodge. Dicke Urwaldriesen, behangen mit Bromelien und Orchideen, entdecken wir entlang des Pades, der zu einem schönen Wasserfall führt.Hier ist eine zur Vogelbeobachtung sehr gut geeignete Stelle z.B. Giant Antpitta und der Dark-backed Wood-Quail sind hier anzutreffen. Der sehr seltene White-faced Nunbird kann manchmal beim Sonnen in den Bäumen beobachtet werden. Das ist auch ein wichtiger Standort für unser Artenüberwachungsprojekt, um etwas mehr über diesen Vogel und seine Lebensweise zu erfahren. Ausserdem ist es auch der Lebensraum der erst kürzlich XXX Cloud Forest Pygmy Owl. Wir überqueren einige Flußläufe bis wir am höchsten Wasserfall angelangt sind, wo man ein erfrischendes Bad nehmen kann und ein Picknick im Grünen, kann das Mittagessen ersetzen. Vielleicht können Sie hier den White-tailes Hillstar oder den White-capped Dipper finden, denn die beiden haben eine Vorliebe für Wasser. 3. Der Flußwanderweg (Insgesamt 5-6h) Hier geht es ebenfalls bergab entlang unserer Bananenplantage - das Surren der Kolibris begleitet uns, wenn wir in den Yumboweg einbiegen. Dieses Volk unserer Vorfahren hatte diesen Weg vor ca. Jahren als Handelsroute benutzt bis sie dann auf unerklärliche Weise verschwunden sind. Kunsthandwerk, oder was davon noch übrig ist, kann auf dem Weg gefunden werden. BIRDING TOWER TRAIL 6-7 hours A long and challenging climb to one of the highest points in Santa Lucia (2,400 meters) with wonderful panoramic views of the forest canopy from the tower. The trail is mostly uphill. It is possible to camp overnight at the tower and experience the owls hooting during the night and the morning chorus from the tree-tops. YUNGUILLA – SANTA LUCIA TRAIL 7-8 hours (one-way) This approximately 7-hour downhill walk connects the communities of Yunguilla and Santa Lucia. It passes through both primary and secondary forest and ranges in altitude from 2,600 to 1,980 meters. The second half of the trail is the Birding Tower Trail. It is possible to camp in two different shelters along the way. SELF-GUIDED TRAIL 45 mins-1.5 hours An educational trail which is divided into 15 points of interest which are clearly marked along the trail and are accompanied by a brochure which explains each point. Highlights include the orchidarium, a giant strangler fig tree, an abundance of epiphytes and bromeliads, and the very popular, giant forest swing. SUGAR-CANE PLANTATION TRAIL 30 minutes - 1 hour The Sugar Cane Plantation Trail is a basically flat trail which leads to our organic sugar plantation and sugar production factory. CASA TAPIA TRAIL 45 mins-1.5 hours A moderate trail with some of the best birding opportunities at Santa Lucia. The trail passes many Ericaceae trees and guan feeding on fruit while Toucan Barbets can be heard calling in pairs. The trail also pass by pasture land which is a good place for bird watching. Raptors and vultures can be seen here. The clearing at the house is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the beautiful views over the cloud forest. Santa Lucia is a hikers' paradise with 8 trails ranging in altitude from 1,200 to 2,400 meters. Hikes range in difficulty from moderate to very difficult and in time from 45 minutes to 8 hours. Our trails pass through both primary and secondary forest, reforested areas, pastures, and organic banana and sugar cane plantations. Highlights include the The Cock-of-the-Rock Trail which leads to a lek (bird mating ritual) of the same bird, The Union of the Rivers Trail which joins with an ancient trade route of the Yumbo people who mysteriously disappeared, the Waterfalls Trails which passes by several waterfalls, and the educational Self-guided Trail which is accompanied by a brochure that describes points of interest Trails of Santa Lucia COCK-OF-THE-ROCK TRAIL 3-5 hours A challenging hike to see the Andean Cock-Of-The-Rock birds perform their morning mating ritual (lek.) It is a spectacular sight not to be missed. It is important to arrive at the lek before 6 am when the birds arrive. WATERFALLS TRAIL 2-3 hours A moderate trail which descends through primary forest to a number of waterfalls. There are several openings in the forest along this trail that make excellent bird watching spots where one can see different species of humming birds, some of which cannot be seen at the lodge. The trail crosses a few streams before ending at the highest of the waterfalls where swimming is possible. UNION OF THE RIVERS TRAIL 5-6 hours A moderate downhill trail which passes through our organic banana plantation – a great place to spot hummingbirds. After passing through the banana plantation the trail joins within an ancient trade route that was once used by the Yumbo people who mysteriously disappeared. Yumbo artifacts have been found in this area. Upon arriving at the union of the rivers Umachaca and an unnamed river, hikers can enjoy a refreshing swim to a small waterfall. The streams that cross the trail are a good place to spot butterflies. The trail can be continued to the Maquipucuna lodge or hikers may return via the same trail.
