A few hours, more than 20 books, and lots of great conversations!
Last Friday, we held the third session of our new Reading Club, with nine young readers aged 9 to 14 joining us for the occasion. Everyone brought along their favorite books, and some participants had the chance to introduce their choices to the group.
Our temporary library, with more than 20 books, offered plenty of opportunities to explore different stories and exchange opinions. We had a great time discovering the wide range of genres represented, from comics and science books to fantasy, adventure, and even… horror!
We also took the opportunity to discuss research on the benefits of reading for brain development. Many participants found that the results presented reflected their own experiences as readers.

Finally, after a few hours of exciting but admittedly exhausting reading and discussion, we wrapped up the session with some homemade sopas de letras (word searches), which everyone enjoyed. 😊
Our Reading Club currently has 20 young people from Nanegal signed up, and we're excited to see this little community of readers growing!

About the project
The Reading Club was inspired and funded by our friends Renata Muñoz and Teolinda Calle from the Biblioparque del Oso. The project aims to encourage and foster an interest in reading among children, adolescents, and women throughout the Chocó Andino region of northwestern Ecuador.
We hope to hold several more sessions before the end of the year and perhaps experiment with different approaches to make reading an even more enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Would you like to support this project?
