Macroinvertebrates!

Three months have passed since we monitored aquatic macroinvertebrates in our rivers, so it was about time! It's been extremely dry lately, so all rivers that we checked had a pretty low water level. We searched in two rivers within the Santa Lucía reserve and one outside.

This project has two main objectives: firstly, we want to find out a little about the diversity of aquatic macroinvertebrates (aquatic insects, insect larvae, arachnids, ...) in our area. There has been research in the past, but nothing really in our reserve. And secondly; we want to contribute to a baseline which enables researchers to draw conclusions about the contamination of local rivers based on the presence and absence of certain macroinvertebrate families / genera.
